Starting A Search Query

• There are several primary methods of searching the database. You may search on:


1. the name of an institution
2. a state or province using the 2-letter code abbreviations [state codes or Canadian province codes]
3. the full name of a country other than the United States and Canada
4. any number of the acoustical disciplines listed

These search queries may be used individually to obtain a wide results list, or they may be combined in any way in order to obtain a more narrow results list.

• Institution names and state/provinces can be cross-referenced using "AND", "OR", or "NOT".
• Searching across disciplines uses "OR" logic, whereby the results list will contain "hits" for those institutions which offer programs in any of the selected disciplines.
• You may use an asterisk (*) as a wildcard in the text boxes (for example, searching on "Mi*" in the Institution name field will display any school that has an "Mi..." in its name).
• Capitalization is ignored by the search engine.
• The Results list is refinable.

Examples:

• To view a list of the graduate programs in California, that are not located in Los Angeles:
1. Enter CA in the first text box, and select State/Province from the drop down menu,
2. Select NOT from the joining drop down menu,
3. Enter Los Angeles in the second text box, and select Institution Name from the drop down menu.
4. Select acoustical disciplines as desired (optional).

• To view a list of the institutions in British Columbia and Washington state that offer graduate education programs in Psychological Acoustics or Medical/Bioacoustics:
1. Enter BC in the first text box, and select State/Province from the drop down menu,
2. Select OR from the joining drop down menu,
3. Enter WA in the second text box, and select State/Province from the drop down menu,
4. Select Psychological Acoustics and Medical/Bioacoustics in the disciplines checkbox area.

Results List

• The results of the search query will be a list containing the name of the primary contact individual for the degree program, the name of the institution, and a listing of the acoustical disciplines associated with the primary contact individual.
• The results list is displayed 10 records "at a glance", and buttons are provided for forward and reverse navigation throughout the entire results list in increments of 10 records.
• You may refine the results list at any time, by cross-referencing your initial search query with an "Institution name" or "State/Province" query.
• Hyperlinks are available which allow you to initiate a new search at any time.
• The primary contact individual's name is a hyperlink to the full database record, which includes:
• detailed contact information
• a listing of the acoustical discipline interests for that individual
• plus a clickable "mailto" hyperlink for the primary contact individual (if available)
• and a hyperlink to the institution's Home page (if available).
• Important note: A "+" (plus-sign) next to the institution's name indicates that the doctoral degree is not awarded.

Viewing the Full Database Record

• The primary contact individual's name is a hyperlink to the full database record, which includes:
• detailed contact information
• a listing of the acoustical discipline interests for that individual
• plus a clickable "mailto" hyperlink for the primary contact individual (if available)
• and a hyperlink to the institution's Home page (if available).
• Navigational buttons allow you to return to the results list, move ahead one record, or move back one record.
