DIRECTORY OF GRADUATE EDUCATION IN ACOUSTICS |
The Acoustical Society's Committee on Education in Acoustics has been
given responsibility for gathering data on the status of acoustics
education. This activity has resulted in the publication since 1970 of
five listings of universities in the United States and Canada which
provide graduate opportunities in at least one area of acoustics. The
most recent forms the basis for this online directory, which is now
being expanded to include programs offered by universities outside
the U.S. and Canada.
This directory was complied from responses to a notice in The
Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, as well as to
inquiries sent to individuals who were listed in the previous edition of
the directory. Information was requested on activity within 17 areas
of acoustics, with the name of at least one individual who is
personally cognizant of the activity within each acoustics program area
and may be contacted for more detailed information. For may
institutions, names are included for all faculty who are involved
with acoustics graduate courses and/or research. Note that an asterisk
on the university listing indicates that the doctoral degree is not awarded.
Although an entry presumably indicates that formal courses are
offered and there is ongoing graduate thesis research, the exact
meaning of "graduate program" was left to the interpretation of each
person who provided information included in this directory.
You may search on (1) institution names, and/or
(2) locations according
to US states, Canadian provinces, or other countries, and/or
(3) you may select any number of
the acoustical disciplines listed below. Use the pull-down boxes
to select either "Institution name", "State/Province", or "Country"
when entering
text in the boxes below. NOTE: You
must use 2-letter
codes when searching by State/Province, and
full names when
searching by other countries.
A comprehensive listing of these
2-letter codes can be found here.
You may further structure your search by selecting "AND",
"OR", or "NOT" from the "joining" dropbox. You may also use an asterisk (*)
as a wildcard in the text boxes (for example, searching
on "Mi*" in the Institution name field will
display any school that has an "Mi..." in its name). Capitalization
is ignored by the search engine. You will be able to refine your
search results list.
