Research Engineer

The NASA Langley Research Center, Hampton, Va is seeking to fill a research position in acoustics. The successful candidate will join a team dedicated to research that examines the psychoacoustic response of humans to sonic booms and aircraft noise, both community (exterior) noise and passenger cabin (interior) noise. Vehicle types of interest include the complete range of fixed wing aircraft as well as rotorcraft.

Responsibilities include:
  • Design and execution of laboratory and field tests

  • Analysis, interpretation, and reporting of research results

  • Conception and design of unique test apparatuses

  • Education and experience will ideally include:
  • Sound knowledge of physical acoustics, psychoacoustics, psychometric methods

  • Experimental design, statistical analysis methods

  • Sound synthesis and simulation

  • An appropriate bachelor's degree is required; master's or doctoral(or equivalent)is preferred

  • Since this is a civil service position, U.S. citizenship is required.
