Staff Research Scientist, Structural Acoustics

Job Responsibilities:

The Acoustics Group at United Technologies Research Center is seeking a candidate to provide expertise in structural acoustics and active and passive noise and vibration control. The position requires experience with structural acoustics modeling tools and includes experimental work for structural acoustics characterization, model validation, and control. These skills will be used to address the noise and vibration challenges of our aerospace and commercial business units with a focus on developing innovative solutions in structural acoustics. The candidate is expected to lead and collaborate in inter-disciplinary teams, to communicate research results effectively through both verbal and written means, and to participate in the creation of research proposals to UTC business units and government agencies.

Education:

The candidate should have an M.S. in Acoustics or related engineering field (ex., Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering) with specialization in structural acoustics. A PhD is strongly preferred.

Experience / Qualifications:

  • Expert knowledge in structural acoustics modeling, test, and control.

  • Demonstrated understanding and use of structural acoustics computational modeling tools (SEA, BEA, FEA, EFEA, etc.) as well as the practical limitations of the tools.

  • Demonstrated application of experimental methods for noise and vibration.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the design and implementation of active and/or passive noise and vibration control solutions.

  • Record of technical contributions in the above areas including patents and publications.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Adaptability to successfully contribute to multiple challenges in acoustics.

  • Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams focused on creative, integrated solutions for our business units.

  • Ability to create new programs and project content.
