A "University Students' Acoustics Poster Competition" will be held at this conference with a first place award of $600, a second place award of $400, and a third place award of $200. Winners will have an opportunity to attend and present their work at the 157th meeting of the Acoustical Society of America (ASA) in Portland, Oregon, May 18-22, 2009.
An example topic of research on classroom acoustics is available at http://ASAchapterDC.org/USAPC/ClassroomAcoust.pdf
Feel free to conduct acoustic measurements in classrooms and other locations such as hospitals, automobiles, libraries, homes, offices, gyms, or student centers and to offer possible solutions for noisy conditions. Also browse the ASA web site for additional ideas. At this site you will find resources such as booklets on Classroom Acoustics and the American National Standards Institute standard on Classroom Acoustics. These publications may be downloaded without charge. A limited number of grants for up to $300 each are available upon request for purchase of required equipment to conduct the research. More information is available at http://asa.aip.org/GrantRules.pdf. To participate in the poster session, please submit the title and abstract of the proposed research before Tuesday, October 31st, 2008. Grant applications should be submitted with the abstract.
