Concerned with the use of inverse acoustical techniques to determine physical and biological parameters and processes of the sea. Typical topics include:
James F. Lynch received a B.S. degree in physics at the Stevens Institute
of Technology, Hoboken, NJ in 1972 and a Ph.D. in nuclear physics at the
University of Texas at Austin in 1978. He is a Senior Scientist in
the Applied Ocean Physics and Engineering Department at the Woods Hole
Oceanographic Institution, Woods Hole, MA. He is also Editor for the IEEE
Journal of Oceanic Engineering. His interests include acoustical
oceanography and ocean acoustics, with special emphasis on acoustic
tomography, shallow-water acoustics, and bottom boundary layer studies.
Dr. Lynch is a fellow of the Acoustical Society of America and a member
of the American Geophysical Union, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics
Engineers and The Oceanography Society.
